Here are some photos from designer Bumsuk Choi’s General Idea Fall/Winter 2012 “After Games” collection shown back at New York Fashion Week in February.
I definitely felt a sense of “cool” with this collection. It’s probably because I heard the soundtrack, “Container Park” by The Chemical Brothers a million times during the rehearsal before the show (the woman who was teaching the boys was hilarious!)
The collection was very strong and you could hear it from the heavy beat of the music. I liked the way the show opened with the first model appearing from the dark in a triangle - the strong logo shape of General Idea. I really like how Bumsuk focuses on bright colors and shapes. His collection reminded me of childhood a bit. He utilized the classical sporty masculine silhouette and subtly made it different by adding various colors and small panels. As I look back, I see some greater details in the cuffs and different sections of the clothing. I really felt a sense of playful balance in this collection. I’m going try and incorporate some of his coloring and layering into my wardrobe this fall. I really want some of his pants, especially the ones with knee patches - I think they would look good on anyone! I know “cool” isn’t a very good adjective but Bumsuk successfully made me want to buy and wear the clothes and walk with the swagger like the boys. He seems to have a different direction every season and is very good at being consistent. I definitely felt as if I could walk of the show and go snowboarding with the boys.
