I have been concentrating on work and finishing up school lately - all the schoolwork I didn’t do because I felt like running around the city and taking photos (pray for me, seriously … seriously … seriously) so I haven’t been able to post as much. (Of course now that I’m concentrating, I felt like making a post : ) ) I don’t mind because it keeps my mind more balanced on important things. I’m not exactly sure what I’ll be doing after I graduate from college, I have a some options so I’m thankful for that. I’ll always be shooting and slowly figuring out what I really want to do. I have some projects coming up which I’m excited about, I’m just trying not to get burnt out too early.

That said, here’s a Instagram post on some random things in my life lately - I feel as if social media, blogging, and the internet has made society so self-absorbed but I suppose that’s just the way society is going. As long as we are aware and balance this cyber life and identities with our real life identities and the mish-mash identity it’s created I think it’s okay. I try to make everything I post have a little bit of a meaning, and story, and lesson I can tell other people. - I have just included instagram photos of places, no people, so hopefully you find something inspiring in the village that you never saw before and can go check it out!

I also detested Instagram at first, it’s ruining “true” photography just like digital but as long as I don’t take it too seriously and use it for it’s pros I suppose it’s okay … gotta breath : )

I think I might be moving my URL to blog.melodiejeng.com and moving my Facebook page/name as well, so I’ll be “working” at Melodie Jeng Photography … we’ll see. I’m going to try and build my book this year because ultimately I want to be a photographer, not a blogger.

Oh… my instagram username is meljeng

I’m now tweeting @MelodieJeng, not @thenycstreets.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day to see my Backstage photographs at Calumet Gallery (22 West 22nd Street).

My street style thesis show is up again at NYU Tisch School of the Arts Gulf and Western Gallery on the first floor (took a while). You can see at 721 Broadway … or online. It’ll be up until May 19 and then I graduate and leave. So excited.

Press Release here for Show 4.

This is my friend Emma. I go to school with her. She is from Brooklyn and I like to call her style “loose at the top, and skinny on the bottom!” or just cute dresses like this. She’s from Brooklyn and sometimes “hood” with that jacket as you see. Today she is “half on, half off” just for fun! I also kept on thinking her box of photo paper was a model book because I’m so used to seeing models. I guess it’s what art students hold.

We are showing our senior thesis together next month (Show III). Here is the Facebook event, More official information will be out soon. Please come. Make me happy because I’m not so happy about it right now. You can see glimpses of what is up right now behind her (Show II - Art school is not very creative with show names).

I had a lazy day today and stopped by the Barney’s Warehouse sale. It was okay, not too crowded which was nice. I did not get anything but it was nice to look at Celine pants and study clothes. I’m off to try Pipa for my friend’s birthday, hope it’s good!

These were taken on instagram. My username is: meljeng

Be sure to follow Emma’s work on tumblr! http://strugatz.tumblr.com/

Have a a good weekend! Don’t let the rain get you down, it makes for some beautiful photos.

Madison and 91st - Getting assimilated to shooting in the Upper East Side. I feel like I’m more of a documentary photographer up there, it’s a good challenge. More proper photos soon.

Hello! Happy Friday! This post is about fun photos, food, and headgear!
Pictured above is my friend Jennifer eating a delicious sandwich she made! The sandwich was made of spinach, kale, and homemade lentil pate. The pate was made up of ground walnuts, lentil, onion, garlic, miso, and soy sauce. Wow I am inspired!
I initially wanted to photograph her Jester/joker character hair clip (which Erika Devries, one of our professors, mentors, and an amazing artist gave to us) but then I was reminded of the amazing wallpaper and flowers my friend Logan Howard installed for her senior show (it just opened last night! more information here.) Anyway, Jen is so cute! And I liked the color palettes. I think her hair clip is a toy or ornament that Erika just added a clip too! So fun, simple, and consumer conscious).
Erika gave me a hat band from Yellow Bird Hats that time. I also suggest Barbara Feinman Millinery in the East Village (66 East 7th Street between 1st and 2nd avenue). It’s the details and special treats of customization or gifting that really makes something, special, unique, and worth wearing!

Today on Mercer Street

Today on Mercer Street

1. Not the best picture but denim done right. Similar to this photo.

2. Stopped by the Comme Des Garcons store in Chelsea today. Wanted to show you the Hats Anthology by Stephen Jones inside but I’m going to make you go to the store and look yourself ; )

3. Rain at the 23rd street station, 1 line.

4. A mannequin from Rootstein on West 19th, the world’s leading mannequin design company. They had another AMAZING one in the display - this one is just fun because of the reflection. It almost looks like a real person : )

I also passed by the amazing Les Toiles du Soleil for the first time. Definitely going to go get some espradilles made : ) I don’t care that it’s rainy and almost October!

Happy weekend, I’m enjoy mine with the new issues of Harper’s Bazaar and Elle then shooting an event and movie all weekend. Hopefully I can shoot street style next weekend xx

PS: I am loving my internship! <3
