A cool men’s look in Soho today
I saw an elderly woman watching the sunset on the High Line today … I didn’t see her family but I hope they were around. I wish I had given her a hug, I was too absorbed in the light …
Always keep your eyes open:
As I have been hanging my show the last two days, I’ve been wishing I had exchanged contact information with some of the subject’s I’ve shot. I got lucky walking home tonight. I saw Alexandra! I photographed her last fall and may or may not have chased her a block because I was shy … It was meant to be! I wasn’t sure it if was her at first but it was. She had just serendipitously bumped into another group of friends that moment which gave me a moment to gather myself, check it was her, and be a semi-normal human being.
Ali is an artist living in the Lower East Side! I don’t feel like posting the photo now - come to the show to see it! Always keep your eyes open! There’s always so much to see in New York.
“thenycstreets” opens this Thursday from 6-8 pm on the 8th floor of 721 Broadway at Waverly Place. It is part of “Show 3.” I have a magazine, “Dress Codes” I am giving away and 16 portraits on display some which I have never posted. The show runs through April 14. If you can’t make it, I will also have another show at Calumet Gallery opening April 5 and after Show III, NYU Tisch will put up Show IV which I am in as well.

Snapshots from the Upper East Side! Fabulous.
I think it’s pretty obvious what New Yorkers are wearing today, the loud people are annoying but the unity of people and sea of blue over black for once makes me like sports a bit :)
I heard Garance Dore speak today at F.I.T.’s Places and Faces in Fashion course which is open to the public.
I then saw Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil blog speak with Josh Peskowitz of Park and Bond at the temporary Apple store in Soho!
I found out about both events through Twitter! (follow me!) and I think I discovered both blogs while interning at Vogue. If not, I know that’s when I started following them.
Today was a nice inspiring today. There were a ton of bloggers at the Apple event which was crazy. Being put in a room with tons of other people aspiring similar things like you whether they are bloggers or students really puts things and perspective. I learned more from Garance’s speech because it was more about the way she works and how to run a successful blog versus Tommy’s talk which was more about how he shoots and fashion. (He shoots on automatic, oy! His photos are good and he gets his point across which is what matters). The thing I got most out of the talks is that I have to form my own point of view. I’ve know this for a while but I’m really going to try and figure it out. I suppose what is more natural is to just document what I see, how I experience them, and add some stories about what it’s like to be a young working photographer/blogger/person in fashion in New York document the journey.
I think I’m going to start profiling models when I shoot them. I have some other ideas too but I guess I’ll keep those to myself : ) I’m also going to move to melodiejeng.com soon and then wordpress. I will miss the instant gratification of “likes” and “reblogs” but I’d like to have more comments and I’m sure there is a way to important Wordpress to Tumblr. I’m also going to work on my website, I want to add more information but still keep it clean and add more design elements. I’d like to organize it more, I really like www.citizencouture.com and horizontal scrolling.
NYFW preparation is great, I’m so thankful for everything I have, and I can’t believe how this is just one season of the year and one of the four major cities of fashion weeks. Let’s go!

Looking January 30, 2012
Matt Yu on Doyers Street
Update: He writes for The Madbury Club. check it out here.
I stopped by the trade show Project Show the other day. I found out about it last minute through William Yan’s blog. It was a great experience: menswear, sportswear, streetwear, denim, a lot of dapper men and women - a place for brands, vendors, fashion directors, bloggers, etc to report on what’s coming up. A trade show/pop-up project. I’ll let Will and the website explain for you all but a second show is in Las Vegas in February (I think it’s the women’s show?) Here are some quick snaps.
